Jessica is a talented voice & audition coach, and author who has worked in music and theatre for over 20 years. With her solid vocal training, extensive performance and teaching experience, and enthusiastic nature, Jessica coaches and sings with expertise and joy.
Jessica’s expertise is coaching passionate young performers, ages 12-18, who need mentoring and career guidance to achieve their performance goals in popular music and musical theatre. She coaches vocalists and actors in her vocal studio and in live video private coaching and has authored the book, “How To Succeed At Your Next Audition”.
A Berkeley native born into a professional music family, Jessica studied vocal and theatrical performance in Berkeley High’s prestigious Music Department, and in the competitive UCLA Theater Program. Jessica has lived in Oakland for 18 years where she sings, teaches, and she has served on the vocal faculty of The California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley.
Jessica is an experienced and supportive vocal and audition coach. She taught music and drama at Hillcrest Elementary School in Oakland and she has lead choirs and musical theater enrichment programs for many years in schools and at The Jazzschool in Berkeley, CA. She coaches vocalists in her private vocal coaching and in her youth group vocal class, The Oakland Glee Vocal Program. Jessica also coaches performers for auditions with her highly successful audition coaching. Her students have been accepted into competitive performance art programs, have been cast as leading roles in plays and musicals, and have developed their own musical projects with Jessica’s guidance.
Jessica is the author of the new book, “How to Succeed At Your Next Audition, An Interactive Guide for Performers Ages 12-18”. Her book is a step-by-step guide to prepare young performers for vocal and dramatic auditions. Her book offers practical advice about selecting material and getting your audition portfolio ready. It also trains performers how to feel more confident using Jessica’s positive performance mindset training. She has a rich and varied background in performance. She has sung with the swing and funk band The Cool Jerks alongside long-time Santana vocalist, Tony Lyndsey, with the 60’s review band Casino Royale, and with the Stevie Wonder tribute band, Wonderland (where she was described as a tour-de-force!), and has performed as a lead vocalist in Emerald Rain Production rock musicals. She lead her own jazz and soul ensemble, Jessica Neighbor and the Hoods.
Jessica is available for private coaching at her vocal studio located in the Upper Grand Avenue District of Oakland, CA and and she offers video coaching as well for performers abroad. For the past 14 years she has coached singers in vocal technique and for performances and auditions, and she studied vocals for over 10 years, including with Master Voice Teacher Jane Sharp.
